“The risk of love is loss, and the price of loss is grief. But the pain of grief is only a shadow when compared with the pain of never risking love.” – Hilary Stanton Zunin
Quotes like this can either energize or deflate me. They can deflate me by reminding me of the fear of losing the people I care deeply about, or energize me with gratitude for my ability to love so deeply.
This quote feels especially true in this moment. I am grateful for the immense hole in my heart left by my mom’s death, because it’s a testament to the depth of love she taught me. My loss, painful as it is, is a reminder of how much I loved her, and how much she loved me.
I miss you, Mom. I would pay the price of this loss a hundred times over to have our love again.
