There are two compliments I sometimes receive that make my heart feel the fullest.
Compliment #1
“[That thing you did]/ [the way you are] reminds me of your mom.” My mom is my greatest role model and inspiration, so when it is recognized that I am like her, living out the character she instilled in me, my heart feels full. Similarly, if someone compliments a piece of my personality that reminds me of my mom, I think to myself “I got that from Mom,” and my heart feels warm.
Compliment #2
“You have a camp counsellor vibe/energy!” I love this! When I think about camp counsellors I admired as a kid, I think of role-models who were positive, encouraging, fun, outgoing, and warm. I’ve been positively impacted by incredible camp counsellors, and I am also grateful to have had the opportunity to be a camp counsellor myself for several years.
After many years away from camp, I am excited to have the opportunity to volunteer again as a camp counsellor at an overnight camp for children with unique life challenges. The week I will be volunteering this summer will host children aged 7-16 who have experienced the death of a parent or sibling. I hope that my experiences with grief and who I am as a person will allow me the opportunity to be supportive for the kids that come to camp, and I look forward to reporting back about how it goes later this summer!
