Happy Birthday, Grandma!

The Tale of Two Tributes

Once upon a time, in a magical, faraway place called Nevaeh, there existed a world unlike any other. Here, people of all kinds lived together in harmony - uncles, aunts, cousins, siblings, children, friends, teachers, grandpas and grandmas. In Nevaeh, there was no sadness, no hardship, no politics, and no cheating, stealing, or lying. Nevaeh was all about joy, celebrations, and pure happiness - like a big, cozy hug that never let go.

Among the joyful souls in Nevaeh were Marilynne and Lee Ann. They weren’t related by blood – but that didn’t matter – not in Nevaeh. Here they were the best of friends, family in every way that counts. The kind of duo that clicked, regardless of their age differential. It was like they had known each other forever - they finished each other’s sentences, knew exactly when the other needed a hug, and laughed at all the same silly things.

Every morning, Marilynne, Lee Ann, and all the rest of the inhabitants woke up to a magical sky with soft colours, birds chirping, and warm sunshine. And everyone in Navaeh started their day with a book and their favourite drink in hand, on a lounge chair, in the fresh air, soaking up the sunshine. The air was always filled with music, and they sang along to all their favourite songs. There was no rush, no
deadlines, no stress - only time to enjoy every moment.

Today was a very special day in Nevaeh - it was Marilynne’s birthday. All of Nevaeh was sparkling a little brighter in honour of the occasion. The two women spent the morning walking along the water, which was always the perfect temperature. And then they had cake… for breakfast. Lots of cake.

But every day was a reason to celebrate in Nevaeh - whether it was an anniversary, a friendship, or simply the beauty of another perfect day. Compliments and kind words were exchanged freely, joy was always found in the little things, and everyone helped everyone with daily living, not because they had to, but because kindness and companionship made everything better.

In the heart of Nevaeh, they possessed a magical glass. At first glance, it appeared to be nothing more than an ordinary mirror, reflecting their smiling faces. But if the onlooker focused - truly focused - they could see beyond themselves, beyond Nevaeh, into the places and people they loved in other worlds. Sometimes, Marilynne and Lee Ann would gaze into it together, catching glimpses of their favourite people, watching them with hearts full of love and pride. They understood then, more than ever, that love had no boundaries. It stretched across time, across space, through every sunrise, and through all the magical worlds.

As the day full of celebration wound down, Marilynne turned to Lee Ann with a smile. "You know," she said, "this day reminds me of the gift we give each other every single day." Lee Ann nodded, her eyes twinkling. "Yes, the gift of time spent together, the simple moments that are filled with love." With a deep breath, they both looked at the stars overhead, knowing that no matter where they went, the memories they shared in Nevaeh would be eternal. And that, they agreed, was the greatest gift of all.

The End

In the spirit of my grandma's would-have-been 81st birthday, I decided to write a fictional short story, inspired by my idea of what I think "Heaven" might look or feel like. I'm not exactly sure if I believe in Heaven, or a place like it, but if there is one, I hope it's a bit like this... and I hope Mom and Grandma have found each other and are celebrating Grandma's birthday today!
