I refuse to call cancer a "fight"

I refuse to call cancer a 'fight'. Cancer is not a war, and it’s not a battle to be won. It is a disease that plays by its own rules. Calling cancer a fight implies a sense of control that simply doesn't exist; If it could be 'fought' with pure positivity, courage, and will to survive, my mom would still be here.

My mom's short journey with cancer taught me this harsh reality firsthand. She faced her diagnosis with courage and determination, armed with positivity and an unwavering will to survive. But despite her resilience, cancer had its own agenda.

By re-framing our language around cancer, we can begin to acknowledge the true nature of this disease. It's not a battle to be won or lost, but a reality to be faced with honesty and compassion. It is about recognizing the limitations of our control.

So, I refuse to call cancer a fight. Instead, I choose to remember my mom's resilience, her laughter, and her love. And in doing so, I find comfort in the knowledge that her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
