Today is a beautiful summer day, and what does a beautiful summer day call for? A Wendy’s 99 cent frosty, of course!
Wendy’s chocolate frostys will forever remind me of my mom. Mom was an incredibly healthy eater; Mom made cauliflower crust for pizza, put vegetables in her rice cooker (just cuz), and wrapped her burgers in lettuce instead of a bun, all to be more health-conscious.
But on a hot summer day, especially on the way to or from our family’s houseboat, Mom had a secret guilty pleasure, and it was Wendy’s chocolate frostys. If my friend and I were driving to the houseboat, Mom would work from her laptop in the back seat, and she’d poke her head up and say “did someone say we were stopping for frostys?” Or “can I convince anyone into a chocolate frosty?” Or “hey, Wendy’s has their 99 cent frosty deal on!” Haha, twist my arm, Mom, sure!
I ate a chocolate frosty today, and I thought about Mom. I remembered her appreciation of simple things in life, I remembered our many trips carpooling to the houseboat together, and I thought of it all with a smile on my face.
There are some “Mom memories” that trigger sadness within me, but today’s Mom-memory brings me joy. What are some of your memories of your loved ones that bring you joy? I’d love to hear them in the comments!
