Walking for a Cause

Life has been tough ever since Mom died suddenly from cancer in March of 2022. I was only 29, with so much ahead of me, and I always thought my mom would be part of that future. Losing her left me feeling broken, lost, and more alone than I could have ever imagined.

In time, I found my way to a 9-week grief group at Hospice Mississauga, which was a lifeline for me. When that group ended, I turned to Hospice Mississauga again for further support and began 1:1 counselling. That experience opened my eyes to how much counselling could help, and I’ve since found a long-term counsellor to guide me through my ongoing grief journey.

But Hospice Mississauga did more than just offer professional support. They connected me with a group of women, all between the ages of 25 and 32, who had also recently lost their moms. We were brought together 11 months ago, and to this day, we still chat weekly. These women have become an important part of my healing journey, and I will always be grateful to Hospice Mississauga for bringing us together. Grief isn’t something you “fix,” but it’s a lot more bearable when you don’t have to face it alone.

This Sunday, I'll be participating in a 5K walk with the girls from my grief group, and I’m raising funds to support Hospice Mississauga so they can continue offering the same kind of compassionate care and connection that has made such a difference in my life. I’d be so grateful for any support you can offer. My fundraising page can be found HERE.

Thank you,
Amanda

UPDATE - September 22, 2024: We went for our walk today, and it was a glorious day. It was so great to be able to walk with the girls I've connected with through our journey of grief, and to walk in honour of our Mamas! Also, I’m grateful to my friends and family who helped me raise $680 for Hospice Mississauga!
